In ASL Vlog, Toby wants to share the story of Junius Wilson, a black Deaf, was in ward for 76 years! It is horrible to know he was in ward too long because some hearing people in ward were ignorant.
For more information the story of Junius Wilson, check it out: The UNC Press, Unspeakable and order a book called "The Unspeakable: The Story of Junius of Wilson."

The placement of a Deaf person in question in a mental institution was a common practice for many years. I could still remember a new boy at my school who was transferred from a mental institution, and he demonstrated some learned behaviors from it. Very sad, indeed! Thanks for sharing your academic studies with us.
Thank you for explaining about castration. I never knew what that meant. Sad story, indeed, and how many Junius are out there?
Hi Carl, Yeah, it is still out there that noone knows. Looking forward to sharing more from what I learn in Deaf Education and Deaf Studies program.
Anonymous (7:48 pm), yeah, I never knew what it means until I learned in class.
Real sad! Thanks for sharing the story with us!
Thanks for the review of our book! It is such a horrible story. I hope that writing this kind of history will make more people know how much injustice happens in this world and inspire them to work for change.

Patrick ooops now im not anonymous
Toby,
Old friend of mine!
Gallaudet professors did discussed about him. Castration in 1920's era. Eugenics pushed the propostion to castrate the criminals, imprefect, mental ill humans, various inferior races or criminals, etc... I took two courses under the different two teachers.
I agreed that Carl mentioned too commom practices which the deaf patients are neglected and mostly assumed to the identity everywhere.
Wow, thank for sharing the story with us. I learned something new from you. Thanks.. Blessed all the bestow to you and your families. Coach Creech
Great story, we should all take something from it.
Thanks for sharing and it's great to unfold the story to everyone!
Hello Toby,
